Protein supports remodeling
A meaningful serving of high-quality protein after training can support muscle protein synthesis. Total daily protein and distribution across meals remain important, so the post-workout meal should fit the whole day rather than sit outside it.
Carbohydrate restores fuel
Carbohydrate helps replenish glycogen. Urgency rises when another demanding session is coming within hours; a recreational lifter with a full day before the next workout has more flexibility.
Build an actual meal
Combine a protein food, carbohydrate-rich food, and produce, then add fats and flavor according to appetite. Yogurt with fruit and oats, rice with tofu and vegetables, eggs with toast, or a sandwich and milk can all work. Supplements are convenience, not a requirement.
