The pescatarian diet explained

Pescatarian is often described as "vegetarian plus fish" — and that one addition changes the nutrition picture meaningfully.

What it includes

Pescatarian excludes meat and poultry but keeps fish and seafood, alongside eggs, dairy, vegetables, fruit, grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds. That combination makes it one of the easier restrictive diets to hit both protein and omega-3 targets on, since fatty fish delivers complete protein and EPA/DHA in one food.[1]

The cardiovascular research

Regular seafood intake is linked to meaningfully lower cardiovascular risk — one widely cited analysis found roughly a 36% lower risk of death from heart disease associated with eating about 8 ounces of seafood per week, largely attributed to omega-3 fatty acids.[1] Avoiding red and processed meat specifically (rather than all animal products) is also associated with lower rates of certain cancers and type 2 diabetes.
