Is there a best time to eat carbs?
"Don't eat carbs after 6pm" is one of the most persistent diet rules with almost nothing behind it.
What actually matters: total intake, not timing
For fat loss and general health, total daily carbohydrate and calorie intake predicts outcomes far more reliably than what time of day you eat them. Studies comparing carb-heavy-morning vs. carb-heavy-evening eating patterns with matched total calories generally find no meaningful difference in weight or fat loss.[1]
Where timing has a real, smaller effect
The one place timing has a genuine, evidence-backed role is around exercise: eating carbs before and after a hard training session supports performance and glycogen replenishment more directly than eating the same carbs at a random time of day.[2] That's a performance optimization, though — not a fat-loss requirement.
