A breakfast sandwich’s nutrition may describe only the sandwich. Your drink, spread, sauce or side can make the finished order different. Check each item before comparing two breakfasts.
FDA’s menu-labeling guide includes beverages and meals with different choices. For a customized coffee, use the restaurant’s value for that size and preparation rather than assuming every coffee is identical.
Two hypothetical breakfasts
The values below are invented for a worked comparison. They are not current prices or nutrition from any chain.
| Item | Breakfast A | Breakfast B |
|---|---|---|
| Main item | 330 calories, 22 g protein | 400 calories, 25 g protein |
| Chosen drink | 170 calories, 6 g protein | 10 calories, 0 g protein |
| Chosen side | 120 calories, 2 g protein | 80 calories, 1 g protein |
| Whole breakfast | 620 calories, 30 g protein | 490 calories, 26 g protein |
A’s main item starts lower in calories, but its complete breakfast finishes 130 calories higher. It also has 4 g more protein. Those are two useful facts; they do not establish one universally better breakfast.
Read the drink line carefully
- Match the cup size and hot or iced version.
- Check whether the published value includes milk, sweetener and standard flavorings.
- Use supported customization values for a different milk or syrup amount.
- Count a drink once if it is already included in a listed breakfast combination.
Do the same for spreads and condiments. A plain item, an item with a standard spread, and one with extra spread are different orders. Do not subtract an ingredient’s guessed calories from an official total and call the result verified.
Check availability as well as numbers
Breakfast hours and menu items can differ by location. GetMacros tracks selected U.S. orders, not every breakfast sold everywhere. Use the guide’s official restaurant source and confirm the local menu.
Compare tracked Dunkin’ breakfasts or see tracked Starbucks food orders. In the finder, choose Breakfast and keep the complete order description visible when comparing.
Sources and scope
These sources support the factual explanations above. Worked label examples are illustrative where stated. Restaurant comparisons use the listed U.S. portions; availability and local recipes may differ.
